Fashion shoe maker Walkaroo focuses on online sales

Walkaroo ended fiscal 21 with a turnover of 1,250 crore and is targeting ₹ 1,700 crore for this fiscal year.

Fashion shoe maker Walkaroo International, which posted moderate growth in FY21, plans to double online sales in the current fiscal year, a senior official said.

“While most shoe manufacturers have suffered in the past fiscal year due to COVID-19, we have experienced 2% sales growth compared to 20% in fiscal year 20,” said VKC Noushad, MD, Walkaroo International Pvt. Ltd.

“We are unable to predict the trend for this year due to the uncertainty. Sales in the first half of fiscal 22 will be impacted due to the second wave, but there will be an improvement in the second half, ”he added.

“During COVID last year, sales of children’s and women’s shoes declined because they did not venture out. But sales of men’s shoes have increased. Due to the restriction of the importation of shoes, we obtain a good acceptance of our products. There are new demands for closed-toe shoes. Online sales have also picked up. We will be introducing around 300 models during this summer season, ”he added.

Walkaroo ended fiscal 21 with a turnover of 1,250 crore and is targeting ₹ 1,700 crore for this fiscal year. Out of total sales, slippers and sandals made up the majority of revenue, followed by 100 crore shoes, ₹ 50 crore exports and ₹ 5 crore online sales. “Exports will experience 5% growth, as we expect to double online sales in the current fiscal year, due to a good response,” he said.

Recently, the manufacturer of sandals and slippers has branched out into shoe manufacturing. Walkaroo has 12 factories – three each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana producing around 4.50 pairs of lakh per day. She is now considering adding one or two shoe product manufacturing machines. The company operates at 80% of its capacity in three shifts and employs 6,000 people.

“Most of our turnover comes from the South. To increase our presence, we have appointed Bollywood star Amir Khan as our brand ambassador. In addition, we announced a social media contest for the current IPL season, in which viewers are invited to take a photo of the Walkaroo logo, upload and tag it, ”he said.
